Welcome to my blog post everyone! The moment you’ve been waiting for. How on earth did I come up with the name Outwoken? I know it may seem a little out there but trust me it’s all for good reasons. Let me share with you the meaning behind the brand and it’s purpose!

When people tell you let it come naturally believe it!

If you don’t know by now I like to be different. Otherwise your just a blur in the crowd. Let me start with my journey on changing my health situation. About three years ago I was 220 pounds and let me tell you I’m only 5’2″ so it’s no where for that weight to go but out. I began working on myself by changing little things like juice to tea or whine to water or artificial food to organic food. I started to pay more attention to certificates on food like fair trade, woman owned, non-GMO, organic , and no preservatives more than before. I started doing cross-fit and would go at 5 am 5 days a week even though I felt embarrassed about my chunk flopping around all the fit people. Within one year I lost 55 pounds and still years later have kept it off. My mind set started to change as well. I started to care more about things than before and would make more of an initiative to do the right thing even if it took more time.

Digging Deeper

I started a habit of drinking tea every morning when I wake up. I just felt better with a warm cup of tea and peace. I picked up another habit to recycle no matter where I went. I started to do more research and realized that most plastic can’t be recycled. I felt good about recycling but after being more aware about the reality I felt like there had to be something else I could do. Than I thought what if i start buying more things in a compostable package to realize not enough things come in this kind of package. Also its not a close compostable facility anywhere near me. I started to do my investigation and found out about all the cool environmental friendly packaging like mushrooms, corn starch based, sugar cane fiber based, and biodegradable. I came to the conclusion that biodegradable was great. Unlike compostable objects which need oxygen biodegradable doesn’t and it will usually break down within a year after it’s use.

Conscious Stay #Outwoken

Throughout my journey of becoming a better me and walking more and more into my entrepreneurial shoes I knew that whatever product I create it has to be healthy for us humans and healthy for the world. As I talked to more manufacturers I started to get so many no’s. No they won’t make it biodegradable or it’s not in the market or even one of them told me you won’t be able to make a profit. I thought to myself, where is their mind? Why don’t they think the environment is important or are they aware of what’s happening all around us? That’s when I realized that people were either not willing to accept the fact we needed to change or just wasn’t conscious about this topic. You know the old saying “think outside the box”? That’s when I knew I definitely wanted to create a brand that had people aware outside the box not inside even if it wasn’t comfortable outside the box they had to consciously get out!

I would picture me shaking these manufactures in my head and telling them ” Wake up”. It just dawned on me! Outwoken! Get Outwoken! Stay Outwoken! Meaning to be more conscious than average and thinking outside the box at the same time. This may not be Webster’s definition, but it’s mine and what I’m trying to do. I’m creating a brand that is Outwoken, because it’s aware there needs to be change and it’s conscious is thinking outside the box. That’s why my slogan is “Change the world by changing your mind.” As a brand I want to constantly promote knowledge on the environment and how we can make a change. The only way you can do this is by creating awareness or as I like to say “spilling the tea”. Remember people get uncomfortable, think outside the box and stay Outwoken!
