As part of the Office of Sustainability’s Earth Week programming, join the Office of Sustainability and the Social Justice Hub for a panel on fair tea trade practices and food insecurity – and how both of them intertwine under the overarching umbrella of mutual aid. President of Outwoken Tea (an organization committed to social and environmental sustainability w​hile sourcing tea from small farmers) Aureal Ojeda, UW Professor Dr. Randy Stoecker from the Department of Community and Environmental Sociology, and Connor Raboine from Slow Food and Food Justice Collective will unravel their unique perspectives about mutual aid and its roots in social justice. Grab a cup of your favorite tea, find yourself a comfortable seat, and join us this Friday evening in an interactive panel on how we can apply mutual aid models to take of each other and build our communities.

I was truly honored to be a guest speaker for Brews and Botany Series for the Friends of the Wehr Nature Center. Such a great experience and with great people.

Session 1: The Zip in Your Sip – Friday, January 22, 7-8 pm

We will highlight the various caffeinated beverages such as coffee, tea, soda, and chocolate drinks.  My portion of the session will go into brief detail on some interesting facts about the tea plant itself and some health benefits

Session 3: Toast to Your Health – Friday, February 5, 7-8 pm 

Lemonade, root beer, kombucha, oh my! Meet the health herbage behind your favorite nutritional drinks. Special guest speaker, Alesia Miller founder and owner of Soul Brew Kombucha will explain the origins of kombucha.  Aureal Ojeda owner of Outwoken tea will be giving us insights of health benefits of tea. Such a great event!
