What Are Areas Of Self Improvement?
Before we discuss why self improvement is so important we have to define what is self improvement or personal development. Personal development is activities that a person developes over time such as dreams, aspirations, employability for a higher scale, enhanced quality of life and even inner peace. Self improvement is a life long process that never has a finish line. Just like a any sport you play over time and with repetiton you get better. You’ll learn different things and gain a perspective that you didn’t see before. Maybe you’ll be able to see things more optimistic vs pestimistic.
What Are the 5 Areas Of Personal Development/ Self Improvement?
Mental- Your mentality is everything! It’s not just our memories that influence our imaginations, but that our imaginations can also influence how we remember, APS Fellow Donna Rose Addis (The University of Auckland) explained. Our mentality literally shapes our past present and future either for better or for worst. Once we are able to open our mind we can be able to communicate with others and actually feel empathy which is lacked in todays society due to lack of perspective.“Open the window of your mind. Social- Social personal development is about improving your communication. This can mean being able to discuss things openly and respectfully with someone who may have a different opinion than yourself. Even learning a new language so when you travel you can speak to the locals and learn about their traditions or values.“The most important thing in communication is to hear what isn’t being said,” Peter Drucker. Body language is also a way we communicate and it can show if we are happy, uncomfortable, or even uncertain about something.
Spiritual- This truly varies from person to person. Some may believe that in order for them to have a better life they need a deeper connection to God, Zues, Buddha, Durga, Allah, Jesus and so many more. For me personally a spiritual improvement is about having inner peace within myself. There are days where I have more inner peace than other days. Then I remember to stay calm, think and believe within myself and move naturally through situations in life.“The one in whom no longer exist the craving and thirst that perpetuate becoming; how could you track that Awakened one, trackless, and of limitless range.” – Buddha
Emotional- Emotional improvement is something I believe a lot of us put off. Growing up as a child I was told to be tough, strong and don’t cry. There is such a stigma that portrays this image that if we cry, if we are sad, or if we just feel down about ourselves we must be weak. If one doesn’t acknowledge an event or situation in their life it can hinder them from moving forward in their life and can later cause depression. It takes strength to show your emotions because in our society people are very judgmental. “Grow through what you go through,” lifehack
Physical- Physical improvement is the most common goal that people want to achieve. Physical improvemnt can be losing or gaining weight, lowering your cholesteral, building stamina or improving mobility. Physical improvement is a constant. Ive learned this throughout my journey of health and wellness. I was always self consciouse about my body especially in form fitting clothes. I decided to make a change for my health so I had to improve my physicality otherwise I would be sick.
Where Do I Start Self Imropovement?
Start small whatever you do. I know I’m guilty myself for trying to achieve so much in such a short amount of time that I end up giving up. I’ve learned that setting micro goals helped me achieve bigger goals. Not only are micro goals more achievable, help you reach the big goal , but they are self rewarding. It feels so good to cross something off as complete. It gives you more motivation to keep going to be the better you.
How Can I Improve My 1% Daily
1% better each day, compounded, is 3800% better each year. 1% worse each day, compounded, means you lose 97% of your value each year.(INC) You may think the answer to achieve this must be complex or some kind of algorithm but it’s truly not. Simply it’s just you being a little bit better than what you were yesterday. Example: Yesterday you ran for 10 minutes and you stopped. Today try running for 11 minutes or 12 minutes. Next thing you know by the end of the year you’ll be able to run for hours and feel great. Improving 1% everyday is simply just trying a little bit harder than before. No secrets, no algorithm, no formula and most importantly no hack lol. I will say it is dedication for sure.
When Will You Be The Best You?
This is the question I hear from so many people. When will I be the best version of myself? Well I have news for you. If you are aware that self improvement doesn’t have a finish line then try to understand that the best version of yourself is unknown. You may be reading this thinking “what is she talking about?” Let me explain. If your are constanly working on yourself mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually, socially you are always becoming the best version of yourself. Your best version of yourself yesterday may be the worst version of yourself 5 years from now if you stay consistent. This is the beautiful part of self improvemnt. There is always room to grow to be the best version of yourself everyday. Age isn’t a limit in self improvent but it’s an option to bloom again.
